My observation of a few recent years.

A lot of different trainings are happening in different places, all with different themes and different faces. But, the message is the same: “Challenge yourself until you die, otherwise you are a loser and you play low”.

And I thought to myself “Where is the place for life in such a model of the world?”

The worst part of this situation is that people who offer such courses call themselves “coaches”.

No, no, no! Coaching is about how to achieve goals and enjoy the process. About how to live and be happy. It’s also about alternatives and different ways of looking at a given situation. And a lot more.

You understand you’ve been coached well when the process of coaching leads to a resolution of your situation and you are at ease with yourself, inspired and lifted up.

Coaching grows into your everyday life like an organic support, which makes you feel stronger and more balanced when you live your true values and passions because you finally became aware of your gifts. Coaching comes into your life as natural as breathing and almost as invisible.

Coaching shouldn’t stress you out of your mind and cause veins to pop up on your neck because you feel like you’re struggling to climb another mountain.

What’s the pleasure to do this, after all, if you instead could have a great hike and enjoy the view along the journey?

By stressing ourselves out with these countless challenges, which we “must” face on pain of being branded a loser, we are missing the essential part of our lives. Life itself, I would say.

A friend asked me recently what I think about the idea that this age of self-development is coming to an end.

I said “yes”. I think the current version of self-development is too often formulaic and force-fed to us by pushy people using aggressive techniques — which is the polar opposite of effective coaching.

To grow into something meaningful, we have to slow down and make the time to take life in, to feel it, and to let it happen for us.

Let your hearts be filled with joy and peace.

Let us all remember the precious gift of simple breathing.
